VOIP Neatness

Many years ago I kicked around with Asterisk the voip system from Digium while investigating changes to some aging Nortel gear in a call center.

It was easy to work with, ran a copy on my home server and connected from work so I could direct dial my wife's extension for dinner info. Didn't work out for me though, she just hung up on me instead :)

This http://www.von.com/news/skype-for-asterisk-now-available.html story caught my eye this morning, integration of Skype and Asterisk. This is pretty awesome actually, I see in this office how much Skype gets used by us and our partners now but still the want for a full phone system as well.

Perhaps time to install again. It would seem that softphones and office voip is very acceptable now as several of the quotes we have received here are just such solutions. My memory of Asterisk is that it would make it a great choice too.
